Warner and Smith both rode to the end of the day, and even Hazlewood could not see the day.

Gabba pitch was hard and evenly grass, promising some early pace and movement for the fast men in Australia and a major concern for India in three. But Vijay and Dhawan started fairly well, leaving the ball so resistance hint a new ball swing for Johnson and Hazlewood and moving things long with several well-chosen movements.

Hazlewood was the beneficiary of a finger hurriedly lifted the referee Ian Gould when Cheteshwar Pujara had scratches on the hull instead of the glove, and when he learned useful rebound also dismiss Virat Kohli, Australia had a chance to cut half of India order. But Vijay suffered, and by the time we tested an exit tired from the gate to Nathan Lyon, the advantage of the visitors was pronounced.
MS Dhoni had released one side with three changes - his own statement, plus the additions of R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav to Karn Sharma and Mohammed Shami. Besides Australia has a new captain Smith, hosts include Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Starc Hazlewood and the injured Michael Clarke and Ryan Harris, while Peter Siddle dropped.

There was a time Nathan Lyon to assume that it will bounce Brisbane to enjoy lunch and for Pujara to the inner edge past the stumps in the final of the session, but overall the visitors had reason to be happy with their work.
Pujara and Vijay carried on quite smoothly into the day, and it was Australia feeling pressure when Mitchell Marsh felt pain in his right thigh and left field. At temperatures touching 35C and humidity, Starc also sought relief appearance after complaining of fatigue.

One of the first short ball Vijay Johnson could be wearing gloves to foot ravine Smith was one answer, but otherwise the first hour passed with very little drama to open a pair of India. Mitchell Marsh was crashing down Vijay border point when he broke the brief, but when he tried another half-tracker after morning drinks, Dhawan could only touch his way through to Brad Haddin. Marsh waited 346 goals and four tests at that time.
